You Might Need More Sunscreen

You thought this summer was hot you, you were wrong. As you may know the environment is deteriorating at a constant rate. Each year it gets a degree hotter because of the overload of human pollution in the atmosphere. I read an article about how in about 34 years the coldest day, would feel like our warmest day.

In the article By 2047, Coldest Years May Be Warmer Than Hottest in Past, Scientists Say By Justin Gillis I learned of our dire situation. In about 34 years our world will be so hot we won’t recognize it.

Camilo Mora, a professor at the University of Hawaii says in the article,” Go back in your life to think about the hottest, most traumatic event you have experienced,” Dr. Mora said in an interview. “What we’re saying is that very soon, that event is going to become the norm.”

When factories and cars burn gasoline they emit carbon dioxide. All the carbon floats up into the atmosphere, where it stays for a long time. The pilling up of carbon stops some the sunlight from getting reflected of the Earth. This eventually leads to the earth getting warmer every year from global warming.

I feel this article connects to the Lorax movie. When I saw where the people were living, I thought it must be hot in that environment. The pollution had made the sky dark and murky, like the sun didn’t exist. That’s certainly a future that I don’t want.

I can easily connect with this article. Personally, I HATE hot weather, I even prefer if it was winter all the time. At least when it is cold you could make a fire to make it a little warmer, there really no effective way to make it cool in the heat. Reading this article made me wasn’t to use more ecofriendly was to travel, instead of using a car and emitting carbon dioxide.

  1. Michael, I think you did a great job talking about global warming and its effects!!! After reading your response to the "2047, Coldest Years May Be Warmer than Hottest in Past, Scientists Say", I realized that I didn't want 90 degrees Fahrenheit to be the norm temperature 34 years from now. I definitely agree that we should use ecofriendly ways to travel, but I also think that we could do much more like using compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs and saving energy! I also loved your connection to the Lorax because it really connected with what might happen to our world someday. I really enjoyed reading your blog post Michael, nice job!

  2. I like how you introduced the article by making a connection to events that are happening right now. It helped underscore to me how this is an issue that we have to deal with as soon as possible. I agree that if this continues, the world won't be anything like it is today, and also agree that that's a bad thing (I like it when it's colder out too). It was neat to see the connection to The Lorax, which helped put an image into my head as to what exactly we are doing to the earth. Your solutions are easy to implement, and hopefully they will help us all stop the horrible future that you outline from coming true.

  3. I liked how you made a connection to the Lorax because they are similar, they each have things ruining the environment. For example in the Lorax, they are ruining the environment. Then in our situation we are also ruining the environment we are polluting the environment with all the gases we are giving off. I really liked reading your article.

  4. Good job! I really liked the summary of the article; it made the idea easier to understand. I also like the title, it caught my eye and made me wonder, although the title didn't really have to do with what your blog post was about. I think you should have explained why you would need more sunscreen. Also there were some typos and errors but other than that good job!

  5. I agree with you hating hot weather! I was wondering if there is any possible way to stop or at least slow down the pollution enough that it won't get so hot? You're opening paragraph was good because it makes you think about how unpleasant it would be if it was always really hot. Good job!

  6. Your title was very eye catching! It made me want to read more. It's scary to think that the weather could possibly become so warm due to all the pollution in the air now. I agree with you when you said that a hot and extremely polluted place would not be an environment that you would want to live in. I think you did a good job adding quotes that actually connected to what the article was all about. I also like how you connected the situation to The Lorax in terms of environmental issues. This article really made me think about the amount of pollution and how if we don't quit now, it is going to effect us negatively later on.

  7. Very nice, Michael! When I first read your title I thought the post was going to be about going to the beach, so it was very creative. I do not doubt Dr. Camilo Mora, but do you know of this topic being discussed outside of this article? They say one learns something new everyday, and I did by reading this article! I did not know that the 95 degree day could be the norm. Thanks for posting.

  8. Michael, I enjoyed reading your post. Before reading, I wasn't really sure about how large an effect global warming could have on the future. If the trend keeps up, the future is not going to be a desirable place to live. I like how you connected the article to "The Lorax". The two are very similar, as the effect on the environment was gradual. The problems kept becoming worse and worse until nothing more could be done, and I hope that doesn't happen in the future. Overall, I liked reading your post.

  9. Great post! I was interested to read your post because of the title. I love hot weather and the summer, but I never knew that soon, it could get out of hand. I liked how you connected this article to "The Lorax" because it gave me a better understanding of the situation. I agree with you that if people keep polluting the air, temperatures will build up and rise over time. This made me think about other countries and continents. What will happen to countries closer to the equator? What will happen to cold continents like Antarctica? This blog post was very informing and really inspired me to be more eco-friendly.
