Many biologists have been looking very
closely at the moose population because they are quickly shrinking. There is no
definite answer as to why they are disappearing. “Moose Die-Off Alarms
Scientists” written by Jim Robbins, published on October 14th, 2013,
addresses the problems with the moose.
Over a twenty-year spectrum, moose have
been in trouble all over North America. One species that has been watched is
“declining to fewer than 100 from 4,000.” This is a huge change that no one was
expecting! Biologists usually see numbers change very little. Nothing has been
as dramatic as this. They have a close eye on the problem and they hope to have
an answer soon. Excessive hunting, climate change, and parasites are just some
of the theories of why moose are on the downfall. Moose do a lot for business,
and since moose are dying off, businesses may be hurt. Scientists are doing as
much as they can to prevent the population from declining even more.
I think is article was very eye
opening. In biology, we have been learning about what happens to the food chain
when you remove one organism. People may not thing that the decline of moose is
a big deal. But to an ecosystem it is! One small chance can affect a whole
ecosystem drastically! It can have short and long term affects on an
environment!
In elementary school, I learned about
moose for a project. They are popular animals and are used for many different
things! I think if they go any closer to extinction, not only will the food
chain feel an affect, but also the people living in the same environment will
feel it. Businesses use moose for many things.
This is a problem they should be taken
very seriously. Not enough people know about this problem. They need to be educated
on the situation so they can try to help fix it! Moose need to be saved because
they play a huge role in our environment. I do not think there is any tension
in this article. It was very informative and well written.
I enjoyed reading this article. It
taught me new things about moose that I did not know before. I hope the problem
can be solved soon. In New England, everyone is used to seeing moose in the
winter. It will be weird if they are not longer around!
Great job Emily! I loved your title and it really caught my eye. I honestly had no idea that moose were endangered. So, I completely agree that more people need to be educated on this problem. I’m just wondering what huge role moose play in an environment. Also, how do they play a role in business? You did a very good job at connecting this article to something we have been doing in biology. I don’t really think that if moose went extinct then there would be a big effect. There would be a little effect considering the affects it would have on the food chain, but other than that nothing else would really be impacted. I think you did a fabulous job on this blog!
ReplyDeleteEmily,
ReplyDeleteYour blog post is very well written and got me thinking about moose and their effect as a species. I did have knowledge about their extinction but I didn't really know the big deal about them going extinct. When I think of moose I don't think about much, but I see that they do play a role in the overall swing of things, not just in the food chain. I agree with you in the fact that moose are being hunted for a business reason because all extinct animals come back to business, but in what ways? I don't remember the last time anyone ate moose so why are they being hunted? Overall I liked the way you wrote your blog and the clearness and obvious passion for your topic. I liked how you related it to biology class and just what you have learned in school over the years. Well done!
Emily,
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job explaining thid topic to the reader and being very informative and clear. I knew the moose population was decreasing but i had no idea how drastic it was! I definetly agree that people should be educated more on the topic to raise awareness. I feel as though if more people knew, then we would be more cautious and careful about keeping the population under control. I didnt know that moose were very involved in business at all, they dont seem to be sold for many purposes! if moose were taken out of the ecosystem what other organisms would be affected and how? You did a great job clearly explaing the topic and i could tell that you were interested in this subject. Overall, you did a great job!
I think that your summary was very well written and it addressed and stated the topic clearly. I think that I learned a lot form your summary. I knew that there had been at least some decline in moose, but I really didn't know that the moose population was in that much trouble. I hadn't hear many things about moose being involved in businesses and I would like to know how they would affect business. I agree with your opinion that people shouldn't just ignore this problem and I think that you stated you views well. Good job!
